Burleson pro Edward Leija and wife Lisset, faithful USTA leaguers who have won a few big tournaments together as doubles partners, had their second son, Andrew, on Jan. 1. Big brother Destin will be 2 in April, so maybe some day they boys will be doubles partners, too.

TCU’s Roditi Gets Engaged |

TCU men’s tennis coach David Roditi and girlfriend Lori Sutherland got engaged on New Year’s Eve in Sedona, Ariz. They went to Cathedral Rock for a photo album’s worth of gorgeous memories, taken by a photographer with whom Roditi must have made secret arrangements.
The photos almost as beautiful as Sutherland, whose left ring finger is now weighted down by a rock reminiscent of the spectacular cliffs the couple got to explore during their trip. Congratulations and happy new year!

Happy Birthday to Aledo's Kristi Ingram, a TennisFortWorth Facebook friend. Kristi's husband, Corey, knew she wouldn't want a cake slathered with brightly colored buttercream, so he commissioned the baker to keep it to her two faves: chocolate and tennis. Wonder if Kristi's slice is as good as a slice of her cake...

Challenger of Dallas Events Coming Up |

Craig Karseno sent the following update about the upcoming Challenger of Dallas, a men’s pro event held annually at T Bar M Racquet Club in Dallas. Thanks to Karseno for letting TennisFortWorth.com help you spread the word about this always-exciting tournament.
“Current touring professionals, top-ranked juniors and local teaching pros will be taking the court Jan. 11-13, 2013, at T Bar M Racquet Club in the Dallas Doubles Shootout. Admission is free, and matches will start Friday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. Food and drink ($2 beer, $5 wine) specials will be available all weekend.
“The winner of this event will earn a main-draw spot in the Challenger of Dallas, which is Feb. 2-9.
“A few featured players and teams playing in the Dallas Doubles Shootout will be world-ranked team Javier Herrera and Matheson Klein, Dallas Singles Shootout finalist Jon Wiegand, former TCU star Chris Price (now a TCU assistant coach), Abilene Christian All-America Hans Hach and former SMU All-America Artem Baradach.
“T Bar M will also have a few employees trying to earn the title, as pro Ryan Haley will team up with Jeff Scarella, while Joey Rive will be partnering up with former T Bar M pro Byron Talbot.
