Destin(ation): ATC McMillan’s Team Trip to Florida |

I got an email from Denise McMillan earlier this summer, and it included two things I would love more USTA leaguers and tennis travelers to send to TennisFortWorth.com: photos and details about their teams, whether the group is here or on a team or family tennis trip. We love posting your material here on the website. You are the lifeblood of our sport, and we appreciate you.
It’s clear that the members of ATC McMillan enjoy each other’s company. They play in a 4.0 Saturday league and, as evidenced by the photos they submitted, like to spend some of their free time together as well.
The ladies who went to Destin were Chris Hurt, Sally Joy, Lisa Klotz, Kayla Margo, Shirley McCary, Denise McMillan, Monika Peciulionyte, Suzanne Waller and Marie Welsh.
They decided late last year to take a team trip to Destin, Fla., for some rest and relaxation. Here’s what Denise said via email:
“We were sitting around the table last cold, wet December at Playoffs and decided to take a team trip to Destin in the summer for those who could make it. What a phenomenal week of tennis with our Pro (and real Captain) Monika Peciulionyte, and lots of fun on the beach with some of the greatest gals ever! It was so much fun. We plan to do it again next year.”
She said they played tennis every day but her birthday, when they decided to just lie on the beach.
“There were four courts where we stayed at the Silver Shells Resort, three pools and jacuzzis and a spa,” she added. “We shared a five-bedroom condo on the top floor and had so much fun. We cannot wait to go again!”
Thank you for sharing your trip details with us, Denise and company. Here’s to another fun season of tennis and bonding.

As T Bar M’s pro shop manager, Craig Karseno occasionally gets to score some nice opportunities for his sons, Max (right) and Nathan. This time, they got to hit with local celeb Mitch Krueger (ever heard of him?), who had just returned from making the junior boys’ semifinals at the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back. Hope you picked up a few pointers, kids.

USTA leaguer Misty Brown is good at tennis and great at basketball, passions shared by the great Martina Navratilova, who used to train with Misty on the bball court at Fort Worth Country Day in Fort Worth. Misty shares this vintage shot of her and Martina back in 1986, when Misty was in high school and Martina was in her heyday (Misty went on to play basketball at Baylor). See you at UNT’s summer tennis camp, BFF!
